This week I worked on two projects simultaneously. I continued my work on my mini series and I started my wood burning. I ran into a couple obstacles with the wood burning it was definitely a lot harder than I anticipated and I made a mistake while shading the raccoon. I'm not finished with it though so hopefully I can try and fix it. Also before I could even start on on the shading my wood burner broke and I had to go buy another one. I think as I continue working on this one I will gradually get better. For my mini series I decided to take a different route. Originally my idea was to fill an entire wall with these mini canvases that were all different mediums. I think in theory it was a good idea but as I looked at the four I had done I noticed they weren't very cohesive and that bothered me. I also felt that people might have a hard time figuring out what the canvases were. I decided the only one that was really visually engaging was the faux fur, which I just recently discovered is actually rabbit skin. I wouldn't have bought it had I known this but I didn't think hobby lobby sold real fur I assumed it was all fake. Anyways I decided to keep this one and continued the series with a different theme in mind. I've always used this wool yarn in nearly every project I've done. Five years ago I bought this white dreadlock wool from Savannah Georgia. For several projects in the past I would weave this wool with other yarns. I figured that since this was a common trend in my work that I should incorporate it into these mini canvases. So I took The dread lock wool and weaved it with this multi colored yarn. After I had enough I wrapped them around the canvases. I thought the look of these canvases wrapped in the woven yarns was a lot more powerful and I''m going to make more. I already started weaving more wool and yarn, but this time I'm using different colored yarn to go with the white wool. I'm going to get more colors. I'm also planning on getting more fur and doing more canvases like that. I was thinking of also combining the fur and wool. For example for one of the canvases I would do the top with fur and then the four sides would be wrapped in the yarn.

I messed up right under the arm but I'm pretty sure it can be fixed

I weaved both yarns together

What it looks like woven together.

Even though they all look similar there is variation in color

I stacked them so you could have a better idea of what the sides looked like

These are different colors I'm playing around with.

Originally I was going to just do flowers on the wood stump but I felt like it would be to decorative. Plus I absolutely love raccoons, so I combined them.

For my mini series I was inspired by the yarns I already had but also yarn bombing. Lauren DiCioccio was an artist I was influenced by she uses fibre and hand stitch in a lot of her earlier works

Lauren DiCioccio, Familiars (Large), 2014, Hand-woven cotton, wood, stuffing, felt, thread

I really like this work because she incorporates embroidery, wrapping and weave. Her use of materials and form really intrigued me.
