This week I was inspired by using unconventional materials. I have six mini canvases the size of my fist. I painted gesso on top of them so I could reuse them for this week. I want to create a series, perhaps a "texture series" since each square will be a different texture. My idea is to do a whole bunch of these mini canvases and line them up along the wall to create one whole piece. Each canvas will have a different medium, no one canvas will be the same.

Here are the mini canvases after I prepped them

This is a piece of material from a skirt I found at a thrift store.

This canvas was made from the same material from that skirt. I stretched it on the canvas and added bleach to it in order to create this acid effect.

For this canvas I started by using oil and acrylic directly on the canvas. Then I took a wet paper towel and wrapped the canvas in it. I left it and let it dry like this. The paper towel helps create this mosaic effect.

This canvas has the appearance of a galaxy. I painted the canvas black and then used three different pigments. I took a straw and lightly blew the pigments onto the canvas.

I had fake fur laying around so I cut it up and covered the canvas in it. It creates this really nice texture that invites the viewer to interact with the work by touching it.

These two pieces were done by mixed media artist Amy Genser. I got a lot of inspiration from her work because she creates a series of art all dedicated to these three dimensional works. They remind me of my mini canvases even though hers all look similar. However, I like the way she adds different material into each piece so each work is unique.
For this upcoming week I plan on finishing the other two canvases. I want to cover one of them in broken glass and the other I want to use sand. In addition to making more of these mini canvases I will also be wood burning because my supplies came in that I ordered. I also have a wood stump that I will also be using for the piece.
