This week I wanted to try a new medium. I originally wanted to try wood burning but the materials I ordered did not come in time for this week. I wanted to take a break from painting but I wasn't sure what to use. A couple months ago I had received some pastels from my grandmother and I had purchased a book on pastels. This book shows you how to use pastels, while offering advice and tips. I've always loved how they look but I've always had a hard time using them. I decided I wanted to try them this week. Similar to the two previous work I did with the cow and the sunset, I wanted to do something involving nature. My grandmother always really loved mountains so I was inspired to do a mountain scape.

Lorraine McFarland was one of the artists who helped inspired me while I worked on this piece. I liked the reflection of the grass on the water.

Joe Mancuso was also very influential for me. I really loved the purple and pink hues throughout the landscape. It has this overall warm feeling to it that was very inviting to me.

This book was incredibly helpful in showing me techniques to use the pastels. I think I always seemed to have trouble with pastels because I blended to much with my fingers. I selected pages from this book that I frequently referenced while making my work.

This page talked a lot about how to blend landscapes and how to layer.

I used this page in reference to the mountains. I liked the colors they used for the water and sky which can be seen in the mountains I did.

This is a picture of my landscape almost done.

Here is my finished work, I went back in and added some darker hues and highlights.
