This week I decided to add on to my large scale painting from last week. I knew I wanted something identifiable in it from the start. Last week in my installation class we talked a lot about animal cruelty, and cow farms. I was the only vegetarian in the class and found myself defending the cause. We talked a lot about meat and milk production as well. This discussion was really the driving force that inspired this piece.

This was the first time I decided to paint with a palette knife. I like the effect it gave me but it was a lot harder than I originally thought it would be. I ended up using a lot more paint then I normally would have, had I just used a brush. This also could have just been because I was not properly applying it.

These two pictures served as reference photo's for me. I know that I did not render the cow realistic in form or color but I didn't want it to to be an exact representation of a cow. I wanted a chaotic background and I wanted the cow to be incredibly colorful but in an unsettling way.
