I started off the week by finishing my sunset painting. I added more clouds and layers throughout the sky. I decided I like the dripping down on the bottom half so I extended it.

While still working on the sunset painting I also started a new work. I wanted to use a bigger canvas this time, but I wasn't entirely sure what I wanted to go on the canvas. I felt like the best way to approach the canvas was to just experiment. I first added fabric dyes to the surface.

I then used a brush to disperse the colors and create this pattern like effect. I waited for it to dry then added acrylic paint on top. I took saran wrap and pressed it onto the canvas, allowing it to dry.

My next step was to use sand paper to scrape the surface and add a harsh texture. I then proceeded to use oil paint and mineral spirits, mixing them both together and pouring it on top. I then pressed saran wrap on top of it again.

This next picture is the end result. However, I am not quite done with this piece and want to create some sort of narrative on top of this background.

This week I was inspired by different fabrics and patterns. I want to keep pushing materials and add more dimension. I've always found Robert Rosenberger's work particularly intriguing and this work was especially inspiring for me this week.
